Diamond Studs – The Ultimate Fashion Nugget

Diamond Studs
Minimalist sparklers to die for, or to bankrupt someone else with, if you opt for maximum carats and the casing to match. If you don’t have megabucks, a solvent hedge fund, or a sugar daddy, there’s always the high street fallback, Accessorize, whose “Bling Crystal Studs” go for a bargain six quid.
Diamond studs are also popular with men, though Diego Maradona might be regretting wearing his 4,000-pound pair to Italy. Tax officials confiscated them after raiding the luxury spa where he was staying on a recent visit to lose weight. He ought to have known better: three years earlier, they confiscated two Rolex watches worth 11,000 pounds. Presumably he’ll travel lighter next time: the authorities are still chasing him for 20 million pounds of unpaid taxes from his days as a player with Napoli.

Hanging from the Chandel-ears

Chandelier Earrings
An A-list red carpet staple, chandeliers are Angelina Jolie’s accessory of choice. No occasion is too big for these earrings – they’re a common bridal favourite, and a great way of pepping up the faithful little black dress.
If you want a pricey treat, try Vivienne Westwood’s own, featuring her trademark orbs and punky spikes. But you’ll need the right outfit to pull them off – as you do for most chandeliers. They’re not that well suited to shorts and trainers, especially not the danglier Art Deco types.
Chandeliers are a recent hit in Europe and America, but they’ve long been standard in the Middle East and Asia, especially India. They can be made of any combination of metal and stone, but nothing quite sparkles like silver and diamonds, as Michelle Obama showed at her husband’s Inaugural Ball.

Platforms Gives Fashion a Lift

Platforms

Whether they’re Louboutin freaks like Victoria Beckham, or just ordinary people looking for a lift, platforms help us rise above the crowd. It’s been a timeless trends for decades: indeed modern platforms look tame by the standards of the Seventies, when two-inch soles were de rigeur. Some were three times as high, threatening careless wearers with ankle sprains, or even lasting spinal damage.

Men weren’t immune back then either. Rocket Man-era Elton John loved them, and John Travolta strutted on platforms through Saturday Night Fever. Neither seems tempted to revive their old excesses. As one doctor warns: “With platforms, your brain loses feedback from the foot, which is not touching the ground in a normal fashion. You lose touch with your sense of balance.” And that’s exactly what fans of sky-scraper shoes like these Brian Atwood Margie Peep-Toe sandals like. After all, life’s too short to stay grounded.

Love Lockets

What do you treasure in your locket?

What do you treasure in your locket?

For centuries, lockets have been used to store personal mementos, usually close to the heart. Photos and curls of hair are popular choices, but some people prefer medicines, or poisons, like Lady GaGa in her video for Paparazzi. Rings like hers aren’t as common, but certainly they’re coveted.

Most lockets are too small for more than one or two pictures, or holy icons, but some Victorian-era “spinner” designs can hold more. Keepsakes, meanwhile, have glass panes at the front, revealing their contents without the risk of them falling out.
Another style of locket has a cushion inside, dating from a time when personal hygiene was less refined than today. Drops of perfume could be added to mask body odours – whether yours or a close companion’s.
Would you give the locket a sniff of a chance on your Timeless 50? Vote now.

Stiletto Style

All heel the stiletto

All heel the stiletto

It’s not that women are masochists. But if a pair of shoes is this sexy, they are going to wear it no matter how painful they may be.

Stilettos rose to fame in the mid-1900s, when Hugh Hefner chose narrow-bladed heels to be part of the official attire for his Playboy Playmates. Today, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, and Christian Louboutin’s shoe collections cannot be completed without a line of sharp, dazzling stilettos.

Stilettos have become a stylish fetish item for many women. Sex and the City may be to blame for this. Nonetheless, they’re the perfect choice for office wear, evening wear, even casual wear with a simple pair of jeans. A stiletto’s sleek, slender heel may go up to 18 centimeters with less than 1 centimeter in diameter. Clearly, they’re meant for those who aren’t afraid of heights.

If you are indeed one of these women, add Stilettos to your Timeless 50.
